Basic Internet Explorer Tips
[Please note that Windows and Microsoft are updating their web browser quite frequently, the tips on this page are useful for the newest version of Internet Explorer 7]
TO EMPTY TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES:
This is a VERY IMPORTANT task to do regularly when you surf the
web. Because every web page, pop-up ad etc. that you see leaves
a temporary internet file on your computer, which takes up space
on your hard drive, which will make your computer run slow!
- Open your INTERNET EXPLORER browser, at the top right of the page
there is a round wheel icon, mouse over this then click on INTERNET OPTIONS. Once this window
opens you will want to stay on the GENERAL TAB, you will see
BROWSING HISTORY with a delete button once you click the delete button another window will open and from there you can choose what to delete.
TO SET YOUR HOMEPAGE:
While in the INTERNET OPTIONS window, On the GENERAL TAB at the
top you will see a box to type into. Here you can type in the web address of any
page you like [for example: http://www.msn.com] Once you
type in the address, click on APPLY. Now
you can close that window and from now on when you click on your
internet explorer to open it will take you to that page.
TO MANAGE FAVORITES:
While surfing the Internet if you come across a website you would
like to go back to at a later date, just bookmark the site. You will notice on the top left of your browser window there are 2 stars, one has a plus sign, click on that icon to add the current page to your favorites list for later use. If you would like to go to one of the sites you have bookmarked, simply click on the star without the plus sign and you will see a menu window with all of your bookmarked sites, click on the site you like and you will be taken to that site.
