Web Based Email Tips
more popular and user friendly web based emails are YAHOO MAIL, HOTMAIL and GMAIL. They all work basically the same way, so the tips
below are generalized for both of the email programs.
EMAIL: When you log into your email account it takes
you to your inbox, here you will see a list of the emails you
have received. To read the email simply click on the subject and
a new page will load with that message. You can then click NEXT
which is usually a small text link at the top or bottom of the
email, and it will take you the next message in your inbox.
• If the email has attachments it will have a paperclip
and the name of the attachment usually placed under the subject,
you must click on the attachment itself once you click on the
paperclip it will take you to the next page telling you that it
has been scanned & would you like to open it or save it. You
can either click on open to view it or you can click on save it,
select a folder then save it to your computer.
EMAIL: To send an email you have a few options. It
depends on if you are starting a new mail message or just sending
on one you received from someone else.
1. To start a new mail message, simply
click on COMPOSE and it will take you to a new page, this is where
you type in the address, the subject then type your text in the
message area then click send. You will then get a new page telling
you your message was sent & to whom.
2. To send on an email you received from someone else; There are
two options, REPLY OR FORWARD.
To REPLY to someone means to email
back the person that sent the email to you. You just click REPLY,
you will then be taken to the next page and you will see that
their email is all ready typed in the TO: box & it will have
the same subject as the email they sent, you would then type your
reply in the message area & click send, the next page you
will see will show you a confirmation that your email was sent
& to whom.
If you want to send an email on to someone else other than the
person who sent it to you. Just click FORWARD & it will then
take you to the next page where you would type in that person's
email address, it will all ready have the subject in that box
for you, then you just need to click send, it will then send that
email on to the addresses you typed in.
DELETING EMAILS: There are
2 ways to delete email from hotmail/yahoo/gmail.
1. While in your inbox, you see all
your list of email, you can put a check mark in the boxes next
to the emails you want to delete. Once all the messages you want
to delete are highlighted just click the DELETE BUTTON usually
located near the top of the page, and it will then send those
emails to the TRASH CAN. (Sometimes these web bases email programs will automatically
delete messages in your trashcan on a regular basis so you do
not need to worry about deleting them any further.)
2. You can also delete emails while
you are reading them. When you are reading an email and do not
wish to save it or see it again you can simply click DELETE, usually
located at the top and bottom of the email, and it will then move
it to the trash can and take you to the next message in your inbox.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU SIGN OUT OF YOUR WEB BASED EMAIL AFTER EVERY SESSION, FOR SECURITY REASONS!
